This post was taken from Steve Ahern’s third trend from IBC 2025.
Radio Studio installations are exciting and open up new opportunities to do things better.
But they are also often costly and require a full refit of, not just the studio, but also the rack room and connectivity between other parts of the station.
There is a new approach emerging for studio desks. It is the third trend I noticed at IBC Amsterdam.
What if you don’t need to purchase the full kit of desk, other outboard hardware and new servers? What if you could just buy a new desk that interfaces easily with your existing equipment?
At IBC I visited MakePro X, a company specialising in “professional grade and highly individualized control solutions” for:
- Video Streaming
- Audio Production
- Broadcast Control
- Performance Control
- Installed AV
The company’s promise is that it can supply a desk (control surface) that will integrate with your existing infrastructure and not just audio, it can connect to video and other functionality too. It is “repurposable, scalable, adaptable and repairable” to avoid obsolescence.
The company’s blend of generic, user-defined tactile control devices combined with flexible, open-ended and software opens up new ways of configuring studio equipment and connectivity.
Also scoping out the new approach was Paul Dengate, Managing Director of OnAir Solutions Group. I spoke to him about the product.
I was impressed. The only thing I thought needed modification was the position of the on/off button on the panel.
I like the idea of studio installation flexibility, it will save time and costs for radio companies. It is an innovative new trend from this year’s IBC event.
